We've all chosen to live somewhere, but what drew us to that place? Author Witold Rybczynski explores the choices he made in seeking a community and a home, and in doing so he raises many insights into the way urban places have been shaped over time. If you're intrigued by cities and why we live where and how we do, read City Life and then join us March 18 for a lively discussion with friends of Envision Minnesota.
Published in 1996, City Life is widely available in local bookstores, at the library, and on Amazon. One reader comments: "While driving up the Ohio River valley to Cincinnati, my husband and I read this book aloud to each other. City Life provides a framework for thinking about city development and the history of American expansion. It confirmed our intuitions plus provided new food for thought. If you're the type who enjoys meandering through a city wondering about the how's and why's of the city's rhythm, layout and buildings, this book is for you."
*All are welcome to participate in the book club. But if you make a donation of $15 or more to Envision Minnesota to offset costs for the event, we'll show our thanks by sending you a beautiful hardcover copy of Voices for the Land.
